CAROOL is nestled in the high hills in Tweed's hinterland.

The sound of the whip bird and the lyre bird echo through a mist rolling off the hills.

It's small school was built in 1922 and is a haven for any child.

With a winery, coffee plantation and Camp Good Enough within a stone's throw of each other, it's not hard to see why people like vineyard owner Mark Quinn have settled in.

"I heard that the name Carool means 'place of everything,'" he said.

"I can verify that."

"It's wonderful country and a great community.

"You may not see people every day, but we look out for each other.

"There are people from all walks of life here, from airline pilots through to rock n' rollers."

The community has a yoga group and a book club.

They also get together once a month and have soup and pudding nights each year.

What more could you want.

Working in paradise and sitting down with one of your own wines in the evening at dinner.

"I'm pretty lucky," Mr Quinn said.
