Car set on fire in spate of arson attacks in Mur’bah

FIREFIGHTERS managed to save a trailer and a business owner's livelihood after a car fire in George St, Murwillumbah, this morning.

Police said a car towing a trailer was stolen from a driveway in York St, Murwillumbah, at 12.10am today and was discovered on fire in George St, several hours later.

NSW Fire and Rescue Murwillumbah captain Greg Hayes said the car was destroyed in the fire but the crew managed to save the trailer.

"We managed to save the trailer with lawnmowers in it," Capt Hayes said.

Firefighters arrived at the car fire about 3.30am this morning.

Police are investigating the theft of the car and trailer and reports of another car stolen from the George St address.

The incident comes a less than a week after firebugs lit three separate fires at Knox Park and another car fire on Kyogle Rd, Murwillumbah.
