Cane growers seek key employees

THE NSW Cane Growers Association is looking to secure key personnel that could be lost following reforms in the industry.

The local cane industry will be looking to retain the services of two technical field officers who serve the Condong and Harwood growing areas, but are employed by the Queensland based BSES.

The BSES is currently undergoing a reform process to improve its financial liability. Under the reforms up to 30 positions will be made redundant including the local field officer positions, NSW Cane Growers Association president Vince Castles said.

The local industry was looking at ways to keep the positions operating. "We have ideas for them," he said.
