Cameras installed in choppers to boost efficiency
THE addition of 10 high-definition cameras to its choppers will boost the efficiency of the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter Service.
The service's fundraising manager Zeke Huish said a donation of $8000 from the Enterprise & Training Company (ETC) Community Support Fund would allow the purchase of 10 GoPro cameras that would be mounted on the helicopters and on the helmet of rescue crew personnel.
"These cameras will provide vital footage to help our crews review their missions and highlight training requirements," Mr Huish said.
"Our service installed a camera system on one of its aircraft two years ago, however this system has proved to be unreliable.
"These new GoPro devices are currently being used on helicopters in the USA and have proven to be more reliable, less costly and have a significantly higher picture quality as they are a high-definition camera."
