A MURWILLUMBAH business owner has announced his intention to run in the next local government elections.
Gary Bagnall from New Leaf Café has announced his candidacy for the Tweed Shire Council elections to be held on September 8.
"I've got my business to a level where I can step out of it for quite a bit," Mr Bagnall said.
Mr Bagnall said he had a strong community focus that any future council would need.
"I have always been involved with community that's a bit of a passion of mine," he said.
"I've been a youth leader in the shire here. My café actually started as the offshoot of a youth centre.
"I've got the department sending kinds in here for training almost every second week."
Mr Bagnall said issues that the council faced were as varied as the people of the Tweed.
"Overall we all want to ensure the lifestyle we love about the Tweed is enhanced," he said.
"It's about different issues for people in different parts of the Tweed. If you go down to Pottsville you have the high school. If you go to Banora Point, Fingal or Kingscliff it's about aircraft noise. If you go to Doon Doon then it's about the dam."
