Byrrill Creek Dam bid fails

AN attempt to remove a 20-year moratorium on the Byrrill Creek Dam failed again on Tuesday.

The rescission motion on the moratorium was unsuccessful when Councillor Joan van Lieshout left the Tweed Shire Council chamber and refused to vote.

The Byrrill Creek Dam was one option to increase the Tweed's water capacity but Cr van Lieshout has interest in a property close to the dam site.

Cr van Lieshout has previously argued against proposals to raise the Clarrie Hall Dam wall but has often excused herself from votes relating to the Byrrill Creek Dam option.

Any attempt to secure Tweed's water supply is in deadlock with Cr van Lieshout refusing to vote because of a "perceived conflict" from the community, and Cr Katie Milne's push for water conservation leading to her refusal of both dam options.
