Byron's Artisan Market gains a night

THE popular Artisan Markets in the centre of Byron will be held for another three nights during January.

As well as taking place on the usual Saturday evenings, the market has been granted an extension to its licence to open on three Fridays as well.

The markets will take place on January 11, 18, and 25, during the usual hours of 4-9pm.

"We had to cancel some market nights because of bad weather, so we thought it would be good to replace them," said administrator Tess Cullen.

"And it's the high tourist season and a good chance to show visitors the colour of Byron."

The Artisan Markets had really come into their own this year, Ms Cullen said.

"We are getting good crowds and all the stall slots are full."

However, there are still some vacancies for the Friday night events, she said - although stallholders would have to meet the criteria of living locally and making their produce themselves.

Among the 33 stalls are local craftspeople selling jewellery, gourmet treats, two types of massage, leather, candles and sculpture, Ms Cullen said.
