Byron United pledge unity on NYE partying

THE board of Byron United has discussed community concerns about the adverse impacts of New Year's Eve celebrations in the town.

A statement from the board said it acknowledged community concerns, including litter "and other social impacts on our town".

The business group raised $15,000 for the fireworks display in the interests of the town staging a family-friendly event, following a request from the council to help fund the event.

The board was committed to working closely with council, community groups and other stakeholders to ensure future events were safe and well managed and met community and visitor expectations.
