THE shire is turning pink as the Byron Breast Cancer Support Group mobilises its Pink October breast cancer awareness campaign.

On Thursday, at the Byron Farmers Market, stall holders, customers and entertainers went pink, and the support group celebrated the arrival of their brand-new marquee donated by the market.

It was decorated in all shades of pink for the day, including a wonderful heart quilt made by the women which is first prize in a raffle running over the next eight weeks.

On Sunday morning, women, men and children took part in a pink walk from Railway Park to Denning Park, where they explored a pink labyrinth, listened to live music and enjoyed a picnic.

On Sunday a team named Pink Power will take part in the Cape Byron Lighthouse Run, joining 800 or so other competitors.
