A PROMINENT Pottsville businesswoman was assaulted and robbed in broad daylight at a Tweed Heads South shopping centre carpark yesterday.

Tania Murdock was exiting her car when she was approached from behind by a woman who demanded Ms Murdock's bag.

Ms Murdock's six-year-old and 13-year-old sons were in the car when she was hit by an unknown object and fell to the ground dropping the bag.

"It felt like this had gone from something that had seemed ridiculous to something that I really had to focus on," she said.

"I was surprised someone would do something like this while I had young children with me."

Ms Murdock said while ringing the police she witnessed the woman leaving the scene.

"The police are doing a great job," she said.

Tweed Heads police are currently investigating the robbery.

According to police, the women who approached Ms Murdock ran across Minjungbal Drive and left in a car.

The incident occurred just before 1pm.

Police said people were assisting detectives with their enquiries.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who can assist police further can contact Tweed Heads police on 07 5536 0999.
