Bush poet thinks Australia is the best place in the world
BUSH poet Dennis Scanlon of Tyalgum is a fifth generation Australian and he loves our sunburnt country.
Mr Scanlon was born in Taree in 1943 and moved to the tiny village of Tyalgum about five years ago, where he is now a well respected member of the community.
The true blue bushman said he couldn't think of a better place to live than the land down under.
"Australia is one of the true free countries in the world," he said.
"To me being an Australian means to be free and having the democratic freedoms of this country that my father and his father fought for."
Mr Scanlon was looking forward to celebrating the country's diversity on Australia Day.
"We are lucky we are free to choose our own faith," he said.
He felt that the Tweed was a beautiful place to spend the special day.
"In Tyalgum we have the bush; head thirty five minutes to Kingscliff and Cabarita and we have the beach environment," he said.
"It's got such a beautiful balance,"
