Burlesque gets beefed up
SHE'S a storyteller and comedian.
But what sets Rita Fontaine apart from the crowd is that she also takes her clothes off while on stage.
The Sydney-based entertainer will travel to Toowoomba next month with three other burlesque performers for a one-off afternoon event.
"It will be an old-fashion style of revue," she said.
"A classic tease with lots of feather boas and crystals."
Ms Fontaine said the show would appeal to both sexes.
"It just very glamorous, beautiful and a little bit naughty," she said.
"Men love it, but I encourage women to come along as well.
"Women enjoy the shows and some even aspire to do burlesque classes.
"Women enjoy seeing other natural women of all sizes and body types."
Ms Fontaine has been a performer for six years and started her career in Brisbane.
"I got into it when a bar opened in Fortitude Valley," she said.
"It gave a lot of artists the opportunity to get on stage.
"But after it closed, some of us sank and some of us swam."
As it turns out, Ms Fontaine proved herself a swimmer and collected the inaugural title of Miss Burlesque Australia in 2010.
Ms Fontaine also wanted to let the uninitiated know that the show will not feature full nudity.
The Beef and Burlesque lunch will be held on Friday, September 14 at the Cube Hotel.
Tickets are $99 a person and include steak, beverages and entertainment.
