A BUILDER from the Tweed shire has set an industry benchmark with his environmentally sustainable development, which won the Best Medium Density Apartment at the Master Builders Gold Coast Housing and Construction Awards earlier this month.

Nu Developments director and Tweed resident Craig Paddison recently completed construction on Maili, a $20 million luxury residential development located at Rainbow Bay.

Mr Paddison employed more than 100 local construction workers on the project and said his team had created something unique.

"We understood from the outset this project would challenge us in many ways but we were ready to set the benchmark high," Mr Paddison said.

"Our aim was to develop a modern complex with exclusive and well-designed apartments to bring a wow factor to the local area."

After also receiving the Best Medium Density Apartment at the Master Builders Northern Rivers Awards earlier this year, Mr Paddison said he could not be happier with his dedicated team.

"I am so thrilled with the team and not only do I have this beautiful building to be proud of but now also these two awards," he said.

"The project was so important to the Tweed region, to help general employment and economic growth."

Mr Paddison, who has more than 30 years experience in the building industry, said the 10-tower building was one of the first on the Southern Gold Coast to use the innovative Dincel construction system.

"This system produces a load-bearing and fire-resistant formwork for walls and columns, which is filled with ready mixed concrete to create an economical, strong and durable structure," he said.

"The Maili development has set a new precedent for architecture in Rainbow Bay and Coolangatta."

Mr Paddison will also be in the running for the upcoming Queensland and NSW State Master Builders Awards in September.
