Brooms Head big day OK
DESPITE a high tide causing a slight reshuffle on the program, organisers of the Brooms Head Family Fun Day expect locals and visitors to make a huge splash when one of the most highly anticipated events in the Clarence Valley gets under way next week
Held on January 1, the annual festivity draws a large crowd to the Brooms Head Beach Reserve for a day of fun-filled activities and traditional markets.
But in 2013, excited participants will have to wait until 11.30am before they can go on the beach.
"A high tide on New Year's Day has meant we have had to reschedule some of the events such as the boat race and the sprinting races on the beach because we'll have to wait for the water to recede," said organiser Laurie Fitzpatrick of the Maclean Lions Club.
"The high tide will peak at 10am and we expect to be able to use the beach after 11.30am."
Mr Fitzpatrick said the Brooms Head Family Fun Day markets will begin at their usual time of 9am.
He thanked local businesses for sponsoring the event and donating prizes, adding he expected to see a healthy turnout in Brooms Head on New Year's Day.
