WEIRD and wonderful body art was on display in Bilambil on Saturday.
The Bilambil Jets Junior Rugby League Football Club organised a Tattoo Show and Family Fun Day as a way to support their club and raise funds for the Murwillumbah District Hospital children's ward and Care Flight.
Event organiser from the Bilambil Jets Steve Lane said more than 150 people attended the family-friendly event.
“The rain did dampen the day a bit but we still had a really good crowd of people come along,” Mr Lane said.
“We don't know how much was raised yet but we will find out on Tuesday.
“There was a blow-up slide, fairy floss, face painting and lots of games for the kids.”
Mr Lane said the tattoo show and competition featured many categories for both men and women.
“We had categories for best sleeve, best back, best leg, most original tattoo and a lot of overall categories.
“There was some really wild stuff; we had a lady with leopard skin wings and another man with a Transformer on his leg.”
Mr Lane said this was the first time the event had been held but it will now become an annual event.
“We will do it again at the same time next year and we will have a tattoo-off,” Mr Lane said.
“We wanted to do something a bit different and we decided to support the children's ward and Care Flight because we are all parents and we know how important these services are.
“You always hope you will never need them, but it's good to know they are there.”
