Boardriders surfing between the flags at Rainbow Bay
BOARDRIDERS are surfing between the flags at Rainbow Bay to chase better waves.
The wild weather on the Australia Day weekend has moved the sandbar off Snapper Rock and to the front of the patrolled swimming area.
Gold Coast lifeguard Dave Strotton said it's only a problem at certain times of the day.
"At low tide we do have a bit of a problem (with surfers and swimmers). The swimmers go right out because it's only up to the knees in close," Mr Strotton said.
"It (Rainbow Bay) has almost become a surfer's beach."
Mr Strotton said most people using the water had good etiquette.
"But like anywhere some do and some don't," he said.
Mr Strotton said it will be temporary with sand already starting to build up on Snapper Rocks.
