SURFERS from across the country will be cutting back to the old retro style at Minnie Water main beach tomorrow.

The contest will raise money for the Disabled Surfers Far North Coast Branch and on Sunday volunteers will be taking a group of people with disabilities surfing.

Cowper MP Luke Hartsuyker spoke in Federal Parliament yesterday on the wonderful work being done by the organisation.

"It is quite moving to watch a blind girl stand on a surfboard for the first time or to see a severely disabled person run down the face of a wave in safety," Mr Hartsuyker said.

Tomorrow's event will include four divisions where surfers take to the water with a variety of boards from the '60s and '70s .

Divisions include pre-1968 longboards and pre-1978 single-fins and twin-fins.

Event organiser Daffy Chisholm is expecting a big turnout.

"By the afternoon I think there will be at least 100 people on the beach," Mr Chisholm said.

Heats start about 6am and a barbecue will be held.
