Blown away by the weather

IF YOU'VE noticed some weird weather lately, good news, you're not delusional.

A large southerly change moving up the coast has meant strong winds across the region, resulting in wind speeds of up to 70km/h last night in Lismore and again recorded at 54km/h earlier today.

Prior to this cool change, the region had been sweltering, with Saturday seeing temperatures of 37.6 degrees Celsius, making it the hottest day of the month so far.

Chief Meteorologist from the Weather Channel, Dick Whitaker, said that from today the temperature will begin hotting up again and the sky will clear before Saturday sees another southerly change rip through.

And the topsy-turvy behaviour isn't over yet.

"We're set to see a spring and summer different to the last two years, where we've had cloudy and wet conditions over these months, Mr Whitaker said"

The region can expect hotter and drier conditions this year because currently "we're close to the threshold of el Niño."

While these hot, dry and windy conditions may prove to be a concern for fire and emergency services over the next few months, today the Rural Fire Service and the local firefighters said they were not currently experiencing any weather-related problems.
