PREPARATIONS are well under way for this year's Bleach festival on the Gold Coast.

The Pre Bleach weekend  begins today with events extending north to Paradise Point, moving down the coast to Burleigh.

However, the 12 day program will officially begin on February 22 and will go through until March 3.

Last year the festival attracted approximately 30,000 people.

Festival Director Louise Bezzina said she expected that number to double this year.

"We have had a year to plan this one and have many more contributors," she said.

The festival will again celebrate coastal culture with a series of indoor and outdoor pop up music & arts events and exhibitions.

The festival will move down the Southern Gold Coast from Burleigh to Coolangatta, celebrating each beachside village on its way through.

Highlights of the festival will feature some of Australia's greatest contemporary musicians, more than 40 Gold Coast bands and a series of work displayed from emerging artists.
