Bilambil choir is top notch
BILAMBIL Public School's senior choir consisting of 34 Year 5 and Year 6 students has won the Murwillumbah Festival of Performing Arts first prize for choirs in the primary schools section.
The kids performed Michael Jackson's Heal the World and James Brown's I Feel Good and accompanied the songs with choralography, a combination of choral and choreography.
The students' performance which saw them sing while performing on the spot choreographed movements, resulted in the school's second major prize at the festival following the school's runner-up position last year.
School and choir teacher Donna McGlinn said the students practiced for six months before entering the competition and narrowly beat their opposition.
Choir member Kiarah Young said she loved singing and although she needed to practice twice a week she loved being part of the choir.
The kids occasionally perform at nursing homes and the excursions to the various aged care facilities were popular.
Student Chloe Baker said the best thing about being in the choir was spending time with her favourite teacher, Ms McGlinn.
