Big rains bring big potholes and hammers Tweed roads
FOUR days of solid rain has hammered roads and created new potholes across the Tweed.
The usual suspect, Kennedy Dr, has deteriorated further after the rainfall on the Australia Day long weekend, particularly around the Tweed Maritime Museum.
JAXQuickfit Tyres Tweed Heads co-owner David Byrne-Smith said there were a few more cars that usual coming in with damaged tyres and buckled wheels from potholes.
"Conditions on the road are terrible at the moment but that's what you would expect after a flood," Mr Byrne-Smith said.
"Later model cars with the smaller profile tyres and the bigger wheels are more susceptible to damage from potholes.
"The best think you can do is keep a visual check of the road after conditions like we had. Be aware there is an issue with roads even if it's a road you regularly travel on."
Mr Byrne-Smith said there were a few big potholes on Wharf St that were new.
My Daily News Facebook users were scathing at the condition of Kennedy Dr.
"Everyone's saying it. Kennedy Drive was a mess long before this rain and will be a mess a long time after," Jaibis Clement said.
Amanda Jackson said Murwillumbah was littered with potholes.
"Hoping I don't hit any of 'em. I don't want (to) buy any more tyres. So for now I'm playing dodge the holes."
