Barbs traded over job cuts

JOBS were at the centre of a mud-slinging match between NSW Premier Barry O'Farrell and State Opposition Leader John Robertson on Thursday.

Both men exchanged childish insults during a Parliament Question Time debate on the coalition's plan to axe public sector jobs.

In his budget reply earlier in the day, Mr Robertson said rather than cutting public service jobs, Labor would have set up a jobs commission to keep as many workers employed as possible.

He also suggested the number of jobs on the chopping block as a result of Tuesday's budget were close to 15,000,

In response, Mr O'Farrell asked for the "page and paragraph" where that was suggested and said Mr Robertson was simply embarrassed because his job commission plan would only create more unnecessary middle management positions.

He went further to suggest the opposition leader had the "heart the size of a peanut" to which Mr Robertson replied "this is a Premier gutting injured workers at the heart", in reference to the state government's Work Cover reforms.
