THE Tweed Youth Speak Battle of the Bands has finally come to a close with Brisbane alternative rock band Danger at the Door taking the prize.

Friday night saw several bands from Brisbane to Byron Bay gather at the Tweed Civic Centre for their last chance to showcase their musical talents and impress the judges.

Local 16-year-old rapper Ben Paulson came in second and pocketed $1000 while Byron Bay brother and sister duo Cecilia and Gabriel Brandolini came in third and took home $500.

Industry judge Josh Lovegrove said it was an amazing night and a tough competition.

"It was a fantastic night filled with a wide variety of young talent," Mr Lovegrove said.

"Every finalist gave a very tight nit performance which made the job of choosing a winner really hard for the judges."

Tweed Shire Council's Youth development officer Sylvia Roylance also agreed on the quality of the talent.

"The music quality played at the event was phenomenal," she said.

In recent weeks friends and family gathered at the heats to support the bands but the final saw the crowd more than double.

One of the finalists Brendan Meagher, from Gold Coast pop/punk band Hometown Heroes, said the crowd was bigger and better then expected.

"I was quiet surprised at the size of the crowd, it was definitely bigger than heat 2," Mr Meagher said.

"This time everyone seemed to be really getting into it and enjoying themselves, they were all standing up the front and jumping around."

The final was also a huge success thanks to Gold Coast headlining act Mason Rack who kicked off the night.

September will see another Battle of the Bands competition with dates expected to be announced soon via the Tweed Battle of the Bands Facebook page.
