Awareness on teddy's picnic menu
EVERYONE loves a teddy bear's picnic.
But events like these are even more important for kids who have been abused or neglected.
Child Protection Week runs from September 1-9 focusing on raising awareness of child abuse and highlighting that a child's safety and wellbeing is the responsibility of everyone in the community.
Fourth year social work student Jessica McDonald is doing an 18-week stint at the Tweed Shire Women's Service and is based at one of the services' refuges.
She is organising a teddy bear's picnic to give women and children who are escaping domestic violence a positive experience that also showcases the service.
This free family fun day event will be held on the Wednesday, September 5 from 10am-12.30pm at Recreation Park in Recreation St, Tweed Heads.
"The day is an opportunity to showcase child protection services and to provide an informal and creative way in learning more about these services," Ms McDonald said.
On the following day the Partners in Child Protection breakfast is an opportunity to reflect, share and celebrate the achievements the industry has made in the area of child protection.
