WHEN Kingscliff artist Cath Grant went along to a music evening at Cudgen recently, she had no idea of the connection that was about to be made.

Cabarita artist Jhana Bowen also went along to sing and play guitar.

He walked past Ms Grant as she was showing her father's portfolio to friends.

One photo stood out of David Grant, who had once been the communications officer for the Liberal Party based in Sydney.

In the picture he stood with former attorney general and foreign minister Nigel Bowen, Jhana Bowen's grandfather and four other men.

"Hey that's my grandfather," was Mr Bowen's response.

The black and white photo was part of a portfolio given to Ms Grant before her father died when she was 13 years-old.

"Jhana is the only person to date who has identified someone in the photo," she said.

"I'm still trying to identify the others."

Her father was the first communications officer for the Liberal Party, with the Sydney Morning Herald publishing a profile on him in 1974.

Jhana Bowen recalls his grandfather as a very kind and affectionate man.

"I was very close to him," he said.

"He was like a dad to me.

"He gave me bear hugs and brought chocolates whenever he visited.

"I even lived with him for a while.

"We both shared a love of apricot jam."
