A TALENTED artist with a fixation for the Tweed coast was spotted showing off his skills at Cabarita last week.

Steve Tyerman, a self-taught professional artist of 11years, said he visited the area for holidays with his partner and he just couldn't help himself to bring his brushes out.

"Usually we just to down to relax a bit," he said.

"I always try to resist taking my paining gear but usually I end up saying man I wish I bought it."

This trip he did bring a canvas and paintbrush "to have a bit of fun and see what happens."

His painting style is unique as he uses a knife to clump glossy oils together.

"I don't focus on the details," he said.

"I am a very quick painter."

While he was here is partner took photos of him painting which has inspired his latest collection.

"It's a way to more forward in the way of painting landscapes," he said.

"I love painting and it is a way to express myself."

Fans might be able to spot Mr Tyerman later this month when he returns to finish the collection which will be on display at a Melbourne exhibition at the Artman Gallery.
