THE Tweed was spared the impact of a severe thunderstorm that passed over the region last night.

There was a light show as the storm passed over about midnight but there was little wind or rain for the Tweed associated with the system.

SES Murwillumbah unit controller Chris Chrisostomos said the unit received no calls from anyone requiring assistance on Tuesday night.

"We had a lot of flashing and noise but not a single call out," Mr Chrisostomos said.

"We were very luck. It skirted around us towards Brunswick."

Mr Chrisostomos said Mt Warning saved the Tweed from a lot of severe storms.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology, there was only 4-10mm of rain across the Tweed in the 24 hours to 9am this morning.

The unsettled conditions are expected to continue for the remainder of the week and the bureau had forecast a possible storm this afternoon.
