But now there are practitioners in the Tweed addressing the problem.
With the aim to help lower income earners and pensioners access affordable alternative expertise, Kirra Hill Holistic Health for the Community has a strong desire to offer services to those who are "financilally stretched."
"We empathize with people who are financially stretched and also experience body and mind challenges," a spokeswoman for the group said.
"Hence our aim is to inspire and assist them in a complimentary way to find the balance and equilibrium to move forward in their lives."
The group's services include massages ( deep tissue, chinese acupressure, baby, lymphatic, reflexology), reiki, life coaching, hypnotherapy, emotional healing, pregnancy massage, bach flower remedies, bush flower remedies, Smart Recovery groups for addictions, meditation and yoga classes.
"Holistic life coaching is excellent for grief and loss, clearing emotional blocks, setting goals and achieving.
"Massage is great for pain relief, stress management, relaxation and muscle tension release," the spokeswoman said.
The practice is planning a Multicultural Eco Mind Body Spirit Festival for September 9, with all-day food, music, stalls, dance performances and talks from various speakers.
Kirra Hill Holistic Health for the Community currently offers therapies like massage, reiki, holistic life coaching, meditation, and yoga at affordable rates.
