Airport volunteers sought
THE call is out for community-minded people to volunteer their skills at Gold Coast Airport's new information and booking centre.
"We are looking for people to greet and welcome visitors to the Gold Coast," Volunteering Gold Coast membership officer Karen Leahy said.
Volunteering Gold Coast and Gold Coast Tourism are working together on the drive to find those who will be ambassadors for the information centre.
Making visitors feel welcome and providing them with information on transportation, tours, accommodation and local attractions would be duties performed by the volunteers.
"As the first point of contact for many visitors, it is essential that the centre has people with extensive local knowledge," marketing and public relations representative for Volunteering Gold Coast, Emma Trapski said.
"The positions would be perfect for students or mature-minded people looking to give their time to the community."
Gold Coast Tourism volunteer Des Guarde said he loves travelling.
"I also love to talk to people, so volunteering to help visitors to the Gold Coast suits me and my lifestyle," he said.
Coolangatta Information Centre assistant manager Gayle Tucker said volunteers were "priceless."
"We really appreciate their efforts and value them greatly," she said.
