Abusive man puts his foot in it

A GOONELLABAH man allegedly shouted "I've got drugs on me" when police attempted to arrest him in Lismore early on Sunday morning.

About 2am police were alerted to an altercation on Woodlark St where officers found a man swearing and abusing a group of men, and challenging them to fight.

When police followed the 21-year-old Goonellabah man and tried to speak to him, officers said he refused to listen and walked across the road towards another group of men, yelling and swearing.

Fearing he was going to become violent officers arrested the man and a struggle ensued.

Police said while the man was resisting officers' efforts to arrest him he pulled away from police, lifting his legs in the air and then shouted "I've got drugs on me".

When the man was searched police found two small pieces of paper containing cannabis, two plastic bags containing cannabis and a set of scales inside his bum bag.

The man was taken to Lismore police station where he was charged with breaching bail, offensive conduct and possessing a prohibited drug.

He was refused bail and will appear in Lismore Local Court in February.
