A TWEED Heads West home was destroyed by fire Monday afternoon.

Teams from Fire and Rescue NSW and the NSW Rural Fire Service spent an hour extinguishing the blaze on Piggabeen Rd but were unable to save the double-storey home.

Two trucks from Tweed Heads Fire Station and one from Cudgen Rural Fire Service attended around 3.20pm.

It is believed one resident of the house was home at the time but was uninjured.

Police were continuing their investigations early this morning.

The cause of the blaze is unknown at this stage of the investigation.
