Nortec fills 1238 jobs in 100 days

THE staff at Nortec know no limits.

The employment and training service, which operates an office in Tweed Heads South, has eclipsed its own expectations after filling 1238 jobs in 100 days.

The original goal in the North Coast Grant Employment Challenge was to make just 1000 jobs in the same timeframe, which began on August 1 and ended this past Monday, November 8.

Nortec Tweed Heads South marketing manager Michelle Dowding said the jobs were spread across hospitality, retail, administration, community services and trade and labour between Coffs Harbour and Tweed Heads.

“We’ve been doing this sort of campaign for nine years now, but this is the first time we’ve bumped it up to 1000 jobs,” Ms Dowding said.

“It was hard to fill all the jobs back when we started and it’s still hard now.

“Since then there have been other employment and training services that have adopted our campaign.

“Our aim is to employ our clients in long-term sustainable jobs, although there are a lot of short-term positions in hospitality and tourism opening up as we approach the holiday season.”

The challenge involved all Nortec employment and training branches between Tweed Heads and Nambucca Heads. As an added bonus, employers who launched job vacancies during the campaign went into a draw to win $1000 for a charity of their choosing. Tweed Daily News media sales consultant Tony Radanovic yesterday drew the winner, the Clarence Nursing Home in Grafton.

Now with this year’s campaign behind them, the team at Nortec are already looking forward to next year’s challenge.

“I think we can do 1500 jobs in 100 days next time,” Nortec Tweed Heads South employment services manager Scott Wilson said.

“We really pushed it with 1000 jobs in 100 days but I think we can push to 1500 next year.”
