MURWILLUMBAH residents Anand and Runi Wells have joined a pioneering group of families to take part in the revolutionary Organic Farm Share project.

The project is a complete organic food system which supplies locally grown organic food to the Northern Rivers, Gold Coast and Brisbane.

The farm share program idea came from growing concerns about food security across the globe and the need for an organic food system that will create a positive future for food and community.

Mr Wells said he and his wife had been involved with the project for six months.

“We became involved because we wanted our food to be nutritious and as fresh as possible,” Mr Wells said.

“I have always wanted to grow my own food, but working full-time has not made that possible.

The organic farm share lets us know where our food is coming from.”

Mr Wells said being involved in growing organic food had allowed him to meet people who shared his passion.

“It's good to be part of a group of like-minded people, and I have met some great people,” Mr Wells said.

“It is inspiring to see people who are interested in their health and the environment.”

Mrs Wells said knowing the origin of the food she was eating was what had prompted her to get involved in the project.

“After doing some research I wanted to know where my food was coming from,” Mrs Wells said.

“I have done some research into farming practices and I like the idea of locally grown organic food.”

Members of Organic Farm Share have a variety of organic foods of their choice delivered close to their home.

The program is based on the premise that members own the business that owns the land where their food comes from.

“The idea of the program is that it should feed around 600 families, with the organic food coming from within a 200km radius to reduce the carbon footprint,” Mr Wells said.
