More eyes to keep watch over Tweed

THE Tweed Valley Neighbourhood Watch is growing after welcoming three new groups to the program.

It has formed new groups for Banora Point West, Fingal Heads and Salt.

Tweed Valley Neighbourhood Watch Combined Secretary Gordon Levenson said residents are working together to aid the police.

“Like with all community groups it can be a bit of a hard slog but it is good to see so many people pulling together,” Mr Levenson said.

“The Tweed Valley Neighbourhood Watch is the largest combined group in New South Wales.

“I think people are joining because they are ready to be part of something and to help the police, and the police do need the support of the community.”

Area co-ordinator for the Salt group, Leanne Pearce, said residents have pledged their support for the new group, which was formed last week.

“People have embraced the group and I think people have joined so they are aware of issues in the area and to support each other,” Ms Pearce said.

“Salt was the only area that didn't have a Neighbourhood Watch group so that is why we decided to form one.”

Ms Pearce said Neighbourhood Watch is always looking for new members.

“We are always in need of more people and it is something everyone can be apart of,” Ms Pearce said.

“The groups acts as a deterrent of crime and it is important that we keep an eye out for each other.”
