THE Tweed Heads Seagulls will see the season out in ninth spot after being downed 22-18 by lowly Central Comets in the penultimate round of the Queensland Cup at Browne Park on Saturday.

Tries to wingers Cameron White and Dominique Peyroux, and a third to workhorse back-rower Ryan Simpkins set the Seagulls up with a 12-6 lead at the break, but had Brad Davis worn his kicking boots, it could have been more.

Davis' three missed conversions proved costly after the break, as the Comets, determined to soar out of wooden spoon contention, returned from the sheds firing

Hooker Tim Maccan bagged Tweed's only try of the second stanza, while Central ran in three and converted two to snatch a late come-from-behind victory.

“We played pretty well for the first hour,” Seagulls coach Ben Anderson said.

“It's always a tough road trip up there but we came out committed, tackled well and dominated the majority of the game. But, it's been the story all year and again we watched a game slip away.

“That's the 11th time this season we should have had points.”

Elsewhere, Souths Logan thumped Easts 30-6, Mackay downed Ipswich 30-6, Northern Pride edged out Norths Devils 33-26, Sunshine Coast belted Burleigh Bears 35-6 by Sunshine Coast and Wynnum Manly embarrassed Redcliffe 59-0.
