Ben McGlynn's impressive first season for Sydney has almost certainly ended in disappointing fashion, with the former Hawk suffering a fractured cheekbone in the narrow win over Fremantle.

McGlynn underwent surgery in Perth on Sunday morning.

He will remain in Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital until Tuesday and is expected to be well enough to fly home to Sydney on Friday.

The utility should be able to resume light training in about 10 days and miss three weeks of football.

With only two rounds of the home and away season remaining, the seventh-placed Swans would need to advance at least to the second week of the finals for McGlynn to be any chance of playing again this year.

McGlynn, 25, suffered the triple fracture of the cheekbone late in Saturday's nine-point victory over Fremantle when he threw himself at the ball and collided with Dockers ruckman Zac Clarke's knee.

He had been one of the Swans' best players against the Dockers, kicking three goals.

Clarke was reported for his role in the incident.
