IT was expected that the Tweed Heads Seagulls would go hard when they travelled north to take on Mackay Cutters on Saturday evening but they just failed to bring home the goods in a nail-biting draw.
The Seagulls put in a much better showing in the round 20 clash of the Queensland Cup but unfortunately lucked out with a disallowed try to leave the score 18-18.
Coach Ben Anderson said his team struggled to make traction in the first half but they fired back after the intermission.
“At one stage they were leading 12-0 but by halftime we got back with them leading 16-12,” he said. “We had a much better second half and we looked like a much more dangerous side, keeping the tackling up.”
The try-scorers for the Seagulls were James Wood, Brock Hunter and Ryan Milligan while skipper Brad Davis kicked all three conversions.
“It was 18-all for the last 20 minutes even though we had the better end of it,” Anderson said. “We almost scored a late try from Shannon Walker.”
In other results, Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles beat Ipswich Jets 52-10, Norths Devils pipped Burleigh Bears 23-16 and Souths Logan Magpies defeated Central Comets 36-22.
