MYSTERY: Vern Vicken and Damien Gundlach have seen something strange in the sky.
TWO Tweed Heads men have claimed they recently saw an unidentified flying object (UFO) similar to those seen in Bill Stafford Junior's photos.
Standing at the Ivory Tavern on the bank of the Tweed River on June 26, Damien Gundlach and Vern Kicken saw a round object, high up in the sky about 1.45pm.
Mr Stafford revealed three UFOs he had captured in photographs within a two-year period to the Tweed Daily News yesterday.
Mr Gundlach and Mr Kicken said what they saw looked similar to an object captured in a photo by Mr Stafford from November, 2008.
“You could see it clearly, it was a silver colour, perfectly round and wasn't a jet,” Mr Gundlach said yesterday.
“It was directly above our heads, a long way up.”
“It was big, very big. It was that high, it had to be a monster of a thing,” Mr Kicken added.
They couldn't believe their eyes, but the object remained in the clear blue sky for 15 minutes and they continued to stare.
The pair was stunned to see the object turn and move in a different direction and they clearly saw its round shape as the sun reflected off it.
It disappeared once and returned before exiting the sky permanently.
They described the experience as mind blowing.
“I had never seen anything like it before. To see it, that clearly and that big,” Mr Kicken said.
“There was no denying what we saw,” Mr Gundlach said.
A majority of tweednews.com.au readers “believe” in UFOs. As of yesterday afternoon, 88 per cent of respondents to an online poll said they did believe in aliens and UFOs.
Mr Stafford said he wasn't surprised others had seen UFOs in the area.
His photos were taken around Currumbin, but mostly looking back towards the Tweed.
“I have been told by other people, that Elephant Rock and around that area, sightings are pretty prevalent now,” he said.
“A lot of people have seen UFOs around Elephant Rock.”
