Ground About owner Rick Petersen says coffee breaks lead to a productive work day.
COFFEE breaks have been named the superheroes of the working week after new research found they lead to enhanced concentration, memory, language and can even save lives.
Researchers at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine found the act of taking regular coffee breaks can turn you into a superstar at work and prevent car accidents.
The study found that drinking a cup of coffee has the same effect as taking a short power-nap.
Coffee connoisseur and owner of Ground About cafe Rick Petersen said an army of Tweed coffee converts descends on his business each day to get their fix.
“The caffeine in coffee effects people differently but it is a stimulant and it does give you a pick-me-up,” Mr Petersen said.
“I just love coffee and it is a rich source of antioxidants, and taking a coffee break is not just about the caffeine, it also gives you a break from work.”
Mr Peterson said there were a number of reasons Tweed people came to him for coffee throughout the working day.
“It gets you up on your feet and gives you a refreshing break, it changes your environment and if you sit at your desk all day you get lethargic and cannot concentrate,” Mr Petersen said. The London researchers reviewed the results of 13 different studies performed around the world to come to the conclusion that regular coffee breaks lead to harder work and enhanced effectiveness in the work place.
