A WEEK after the ‘sensational’ line-up for Splendour in the Grass, to be held this year at Woodford in July was announced, Byron Council today will deal with a petition calling for the return of the popular event to the Byron Shire.
A second petition containing 2054 signatures calls for the council to amend its draft events policy to allow more than two large events to be held a year and to abolish the 16,500 cap on festival audiences.
The first petition was lodged with the council by Darcy Condon, the general manager of Village Sounds-Splendour in the Grass, on behalf of a group of Mullumbimby teenagers.
Mr Condon has asked the council to take the petition into consideration when dealing with the draft events policy.
Staff have recommended both petitions be considered as draft events policy submissions.
This year’s Splendour line-up includes The Strokes, Pixies, Ben Harper, Mumford and Sons, Goldfrapp, Grizzly Bear, The Vines and Midlake.
