New pound website leads pets home

A NEW online service is lending a paw to lost pets as well as abandoned animals seeking new homes.

Stotts Creek Impounding Facility yesterday launched images and descriptions of all dogs and cats in its care online to the Tweed Shire Council website.

Besides helping abandoned animals find new families, the website can also be used to reunite lost pets with their owners.

Council’s regulatory services co-ordinator Paul Brouwer said three impounded dogs either lost or separated from their owners had already been listed on the website.

“We’ve got their details posted online and we’re hoping their owners may come forward,” Mr Brouwer said.

“Also, if someone has lost a pet, they can load their picture and information to the website to see if they have been collected by council.”

The new service will also help families seeking a new furry friend to browse for pets online.

He said those seeking a particular breed could now make regular visits to the website.

“When a person or family is interested in purchasing an animal, it’s important that they interact with the animal to see if they are a good fit,” Mr Brouwer said.

To access the impounding facility information, go to www.tweed.nsw.gov.au and click on Community, then Animal Regulations followed by Impounding Facility.

The website will be regularly updated.
