Lawrence still master of surf

BYRON Bay’s Master of the surf Glen Lawrence has again proved why he is one of Australia’s greatest surf champions by winning three medals in the Australian Masters Surf Life Saving Championships at Kurrawa.

In challenging conditions, Lawrence won gold in the 45-49 years rescue tube race and silver in the surf race, and combined with Geoff Brodin to take silver in the board rescue.

Many competitors were not able to finish the events due to the large, heavy surf.

With fewer than 20 competitors in the masters events, Byron Bay nabbed seven medals, including the three by Lawrence.

Others were in the women’s events, Heli Murray taking bronze in the 40-44 years rescue tube, and silver with Jo Kay in the board rescue.

In beach events, Helen Jarvis took silver in the flags while Paul Pattison picked up silver in his age-division sprint.

The competition has been suspended indefinitely pending talks tomorrow.
