A RECALL of almost 10,000 Holden Cruze cars is a purely precautionary measure, the company says.
The company has issued a safety recall on a specific range of MY10 JG Cruze models fitted with a 1.8 litre petrol engine.
"A condition has been identified where, in some instances, the fuel feed hose may not have been manufactured correctly and could result in a fuel leak," a Holden spokesman said in a statement.
"We are aware of 71 cases of a reported fuel leak due to this condition."
The spokesman said some Cruze owners may have noticed a fuel smell, had leaking fuel or a loss of power.
"We regret any inconvenience caused, however, safety is our number one priority and it's our duty of care to inform customers as soon as an issue comes to light."
The recall affects 9,098 vehicles in Australia.
No accidents or injuries have been reported.
Holden is contacting impacted customers and people wanting more information can telephone 1800 632 826.
Holden New Zealand is also recalling 485 cars with the same suspected problem.
