Vandals attack school buses

LINDISFARNE Anglican Grammar School has been forced to hire buses to pick up its students following an attack on two of its vehicles.

About 10pm on Saturday, vandals used rocks to smash the windows of two of the school’s three private buses at its Mahers Lane campus in Terranora.

Business manager Stephen Cooke said the damage was disappointing.

“It’s frustrating from my personal point of view because we’re trying to build up the school,” Mr Cooke said.

“We’ve never really had a similar incident before.”

Mr Cooke said the school had to hire two buses to collect students for school yesterday.

“The school’s services are continuing without interruption," he said.

“Normally the buses would be in a secure environment, but due to construction we had to leave them out for the weekend.

“It’s unfortunate circumstances.”

Mr Cooke appealed for anyone with information to contact the Tweed Heads Police Station on (07) 5536 0999.

“We’re hopeful and confident police will find the offenders.”

Tweed Coast Protective Services owner Tim Kafer said they were notified of the attack following a tip-off from a nearby resident.

“I ended up with three patrol cars up there trying to figure out who did it,” Mr Kafer said.

“There were three different parties in the street.”

Mr Kafer said they were still calculating the extent of the damage.

“Those buses are worth $500,000 each.”
