Calm returns to M'bah streets

THE streets of Murwillumbah are being reclaimed by more subdued traffic following the conclusion of the Speed On Tweed Festival and the Repco Rally Australia on Sunday.

While the world rally captured the international attention, for thousands of spectators watching historic cars racing against the clock around the 1.1km circuit was the highlight of the weekend.

The 'home grown' event managed to hold its own against the Repco Rally, with Murwillumbah welcoming back the event which was feared lost after last year's Speed On Tweed Festival.

This year, the event attracted 182 competitors across various classes.

The fastest time of the two-day event was recorded by Bill Norman driving a GEK in a time of 41.427. The car with an engine capacity of 1.1l also won the sports cars and GT cars post 1969 to 2000cc.
