ANTI-rally protesters staged a last-ditch effort to let Repco Rally Australia know it was not welcome in the Tweed.

About 50 supporters of No Rally Group gathered outside the Cudgen Leagues Club in Kingscliff as the rally officially came to a close to once again voice their disapproval.

They were met with rally supporters leaving the ceremony, who mocked the protesters from the opposite side of Wommin Bay Road.

Tweed Shire councillor Katie Milne got emotional as she addressed her followers over a loud speaker.

“We come in peace. It's not personal,” Cr Milne said.

“People would have a much better time if it was moved. This isn't the right place to hold this event.”

Cr Milne also spoke to rally supporters on the opposite side of the road.

“I don't know if you know this but we have more biodiversity here than Kakadu,” Ms Milne said.

“We have nothing against the drivers, we just don't want this rally back in the Tweed.”

A 61-year-old man was arrested on Friday for causing $10,000 in damage when he allegedly painted anti-rally slogans over 30 kilometres of Kyogle Road.

Two stages of the competition were also cancelled on Friday after protestors rolled boulders onto the track and stoned competing cars.
