Dancers score a first for school

KYLIE Jenkins put her best foot forward and straight up in the air for Banora Point High School's first HSC exam.

Kylie, 17, along with seven other students who are part of the inaugural Year 12 class for the Banora Point school, put on the dancing performances of their lives for the Board of Studies on Monday and Tuesday.

Kylie was the first student from the school to perform in the practical exam.

“It was nerve-racking waiting for the examiners to be ready for me,” she said. “I felt confident that I had spent lots of hours preparing, and the examiners were really nice and comforting.

“I feel fantastic now that I'm finished.” Head of creative arts Lexi Cutcher said it was an exciting first for the school.

“I am so proud of the students and their teacher, Rebecca Hay,” Dr Cutcher said.

“They have all worked tirelessly to prepare for this, and our parent body has been very supportive of us.

“The students should do very well.

“Our drama students have their performance exams in a couple of weeks and the visual arts bodies of works are due on September 8, so it's a very busy time for us, but very fulfilling and exhilarating.

“I can't wait to see their results.”
