Going bananas with songs in their heart

IT will be hard to miss Banana Queen hopeful Amanda Cook tonight as she belts out a tune, dressed in her second-hand overalls and leopard skin tights.

Instead of competing for the coveted festival queen title, Miss Cook will be aiming for “Sing Star” Queen at the Tweed Valley Banana Festival's latest charity fundraiser.

Starting tonight at 6.30pm, for 7pm, at the Condong Bowls Club the Op-Shop Fashion Variety Night, including karaoke and a disco, is guaranteed to make you laugh.

“Brilliant” was how Miss Cook, of Murwillumbah, described her karaoke skills.

“I'm the best; I'm overly confident,” she said.

Live entertainment throughout the night will include a martial arts performance, a comedian, a bagpipe act and the Hoopla Circus.

Entry is $10 and kids under 12 are free.

Festival organiser Janelle Skennar said they are still calling for princess and prince entries, aged between five and 12.

“We need their forms as soon as possible because their first outing, a barefoot bowls day, is on July 19,” Mrs Skennar said.
