Christians cop a visit

A GROUP of Christians allegedly intimidated attendees at the Exit International seminar at Tweed Heads Civic Centre yesterday.

About five people, some carrying placards with messages from the Bible, stood outside the centre where Doctor Philip Nitschke addressed a predominantly elderly audience about euthanasia.

Police were called and confronted the Christians.

One of the protesters, Bill Sked, said the group was not being offensive.

“We are just giving people the alternate view; there is life after death and people need to be informed”.

“They have to be informed, there is life after death, or there is not,” Mr Sked said, referring to the Christian view that suicide is a serious sin. “The Bible says 'Thou shall not kill'.”

Exit International member Elaine Arch-Lowe, said: “I feel if people want to protest, they have a right to pro- test. They are obviously Christians, but a lot of people are not Christians and don't believe. They have no right to tell people how they should act.”
