Pest killers help save wildlife

WHO would have thought that termites could ever help save the mammals?

Coolangatta-based SureKil Pest Control has helped contribute money to a $37,790 national sum to help conserve some of Australia's threatened wildlife and ecosystems through sales of termite control products.

In partnership with Exterra and Australian Wildlife Conservancy (AWC), SureKil Pest Control and other pest control businesses around Australia will continue their efforts to help sell a combined 5000 Exterra termite control product instalments in the next nine months.

A percentage of each Exterra sale goes directly to the AWC.

SureKil director and Bilambil Heights resident Mick Humberstone said it was a worthwhile cause.

“Few people realise that Australia has the worst mammal extinction rate in the world, and many of our surviving mammal species are listed as threatened with extinction,” Mr Humberstone said.

Funds raised will help in the preservation of more than 27,700 acres of threatened wilderness in Northern Australia.

“Thanks to the support of local residents we can continue to help AWC protect threatened wildlife, while protecting local homes from termites at the same time,” he said.

Mr Humberstone said he was pleased to be selling a product that made a difference.

“We are proud to support AWC's determined efforts to arrest the rapid decline of wildlife and ecosystems,” he said.
